Epigenetic Biomarkers for Spastic Cerebral Palsy
Studying How Genes & Molecules Impact CP
This study aims to discover biomarkers, or biological clues found in blood, saliva, or tissue, that may help detect brain injury in children. Researchers are studying DNA, RNA, proteins, and related molecules to better understand these early signs and support babies at risk for cerebral palsy or CP-like conditions. The goal is to improve how we identify and care for children with brain-based developmental differences.

What’s Involved
Participation in this study includes donating a small blood sample at three different times over two years. Each sample takes about 10 to 15 minutes to collect. You’ll also have time to ask questions and decide whether this study is right for your family.
Blood samples will be collected:
- Upon your child’s first admission to the NICU.
- Around 12 months of age.
- Around 2 years of age.
Each sample will be about 1 milliliter (about 1/5 of a teaspoon). The first sample may be collected during a routine heel-stick, a common method used in the NICU. Later samples may be collected during regular lab visits whenever possible.
After the study, samples and data will be stored indefinitely for future analysis.
