Me mud茅 de la India a Brooklyn, NY cuando ten铆a ocho a帽os. Siempre supe que quer铆a ser m茅dico, mis padres estaban en el campo m茅dico y disfrut茅 de la ciencia y las matem谩ticas. Hoy en d铆a, como madre y pediatra, creo que cuidar de la salud de los ni帽os es m谩s una llamada que un trabajo. Y es un privilegio. Los ni帽os son vulnerables y nos necesitan.

Por qu茅 trato a los ni帽os

Estar cerca de ni帽os me mantiene optimista. Me encanta c贸mo son en este momento, y no dejan que las enfermedades (ni siquiera las cr贸nicas) las definan. Son ni帽os primero y solo quieren hacer cosas para ni帽os: ir a la escuela, jugar y estar con sus amigos. Esos son sus objetivos, incluso si tienen una enfermedad grave.

Lo que me apasiona

Ser m茅dico es un honor y un privilegio. Cuando deja a un lado todas las herramientas de alta tecnolog铆a que tenemos, ser m茅dico depende de usted, el paciente y la familia, y de sus ojos y o铆dos. Puede obtener tanta informaci贸n solo por interactuar con las personas. Eso es algo que siempre les digo a mis estudiantes de medicina.

C贸mo intento marcar la diferencia

Todos merecen respeto, y mis interacciones con las personas lo reflejan. Cuando estoy tratando a un ni帽o, le doy toda mi atenci贸n. En ese momento, el ni帽o es lo m谩s importante de mi mundo. Cuando un ni帽o est谩 enfermo, todo consume para toda la familia. Es cuesti贸n de todos. Ah铆 es de donde vengo cuando interact煤o con los ni帽os y sus familias.
