I am a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and reproductive geneticist who specializes in prenatal diagnosis and fetal intervention. I knew from the time I was a medical student that I wanted to devote my career to caring for women with high-risk pregnancies. During my training I was profoundly impacted by a few complicated cases and the manner that my brilliant mentors handled them with grace, humility, and expertise. The pregnant patients who come to see me are often facing a difficult diagnosis in their unborn baby. I can only imagine how unsettling it is for patients and families to know that their baby will need specialized care. My approach to care is to be honest and forthcoming, but deliver messages with kindness and humility — I try to deliver care in a manner that I would want my sister, my cousin, my best friend to be treated. I see it as an honor and a privilege to care for patients and families who are facing a prenatal diagnosis. I want to be there to support them through their pregnancy journey.Â
